Non-contrast pelvic MRI covers the bony pelvis, sacrum, hip girdle musculature, and adjacent soft tissue. It is most useful for musculoskeletal questions such as sacral stress fractures, muscle injury, and structural evaluation.

Ordered for deep groin or buttock pain, suspected insufficiency fracture, hamstring origin injury, or athletic pubalgia.
How to Prepare
- No fasting required for the musculoskeletal study.
- Empty your bladder before the scan.
- You will change into a gown — no metal fasteners.
- Let us know at booking if your question is gynecologic or oncologic, since those often require contrast.
Common Questions
Non-contrast pelvic MRI shows some gynecologic anatomy, but most gynecologic and oncologic questions need contrast for a complete answer. We perform non-contrast studies only. Tell us your clinical question at booking and we will say honestly whether we are the right facility.
No. A pelvis study covers both sides broadly and the sacrum. A hip study focuses tightly on one joint with higher resolution. For labral tears you want the hip study.
