What the Radiologist Looks For
- Achilles tendon tears and tendinosis
- Lateral ligament complex tears (ATFL, CFL)
- Deltoid ligament injury
- Peroneal and posterior tibial tendon pathology
- Osteochondral lesions of the talus
- Stress fractures and bone marrow edema
- Sinus tarsi syndrome
- Tarsal tunnel pathology
Who Orders This
Ordered for a sprain still painful after six weeks, suspected Achilles injury, or persistent instability.
How to Prepare
- No fasting or special preparation.
- Wear or bring shorts, or plan on a gown.
- Remove ankle bracelets and any walking boot for the scan.
- Tell us which ankle.
Common Questions
Pain at or above the ankle bones is an ankle study. Pain in the arch, midfoot, or toes is a foot study. They are separate exams with different coverage — tell us where it hurts and we will route it correctly.
No, walking boots contain metal. Bring it and put it back on afterward.
